surprises from Jesus!

I recently read a blog post that talked about approaching God and the Kingdom as a little child would... with utter dependence, zero worry, a playful spirit, sweet innocence, joy in the simplest, ultimate trust, rest, total confidence... What stood out to me most in that list was "playful spirit."  How often do you hear: would you play with me? come forth from a child's lips? A lot.  How often do I say that to Jesus?

.....

I couldn't remember ever asking that. A game with God?  It made me smile, and wonder a bit... what if?

I decided to embrace it. What was the worst that could happen? I know my Daddy only wants good things for me--His delight is in the giving of beautiful treasures and gifts--so I knew that no matter what happened, I would be okay. More than okay.

me: Jesus, let's play a game....
Jesus: Sounds good to me.
me: Okay so how about every day, you give me a different surprise, and I tell everyone about it?

I could just feel Him smile at me...
*deep breath* here we go!

Today. Monday. [which everyone knows is the BEST day of the week *cough.sarcasm.cough*]. The coffee machine [a.k.a. one of Janet's lifelines] decides that it doesn't want to work anymore.
ummm...

me: *as I look up at the ceiling* maybe You don't understand the meaning of the word "game."
*insert me getting all: I'm-a-hopeless-drama-queen-sometimes-but-You-know-You-love-me*
My life. is. over. How am I supposed to go on?? How am I expected to SURVIVE?! How could this happen?

.....

About 30 minutes later, Jess walks into the kitchen with a HUGE smile on her face and this beautiful item in her hands...
Travel mug...filled with delicious, hot coffee.
In an instant, everything changed. Even though I knew I would be "okay" without coffee, the shock of it showing up in my hands, SURPRISED me. Jesus knew. He smiled. And He blessed. And no lie, after that, my day literally soared to cloud nine heights. My smile could not be surpassed, my love for Him could not be contained. My Jesus is too good to me... happiness abounds.

I can't wait for tomorrow. :D
